A pet project website hopefully providing useful information and a few stories about Rivington and its surrounding areas. A fascinating place with plenty of history.
Feel free to comment or email me any tales or titbits of information you can aid me with as i am clutching at straws here. Hopefully this site will get better, cant get worse. Main focus is on the history of Rivington and Anglesarke.
If you want to know more about Rivington and Anglezarke then try and get hold of the books by M.D.Smith. The old photographs alone are fascinating.
Dear Sir,
I shall be obliged if you will communicate to the Mayor of Bolton, on my behalf, an offer to give the town of Bolton a portion of the lands in the Parish of Rivington belonging to myself, to be used as a public park for the use and enjoyment of the public for ever.
I particularly wish that every consideration be given to the farmers and others who are tenants upon the estate, and that every reason- able care be taken to cause them the minimum of inconvenience. If the town of Bolton is pleased to accept this offer I shall be obliged if you will take the necessary steps to have the property transferred so that the matter be completed on my return home in December next.
Yours faithfully, W. H. LEVER. J

All true stories here, no porkies, so send them in and they might get published as long as they dont send me into a coma.
About five years ago some friends and i were camping up rivi near the coloseum when a bright light lit up our tent. I took a look outside and a white ball of light about 2ft wide was hovering about 20ft above us. It stayed there for a few seconds and then disappeared. It really freaked me out. Dave...Chorley
Ed.....Top story Dave, i couldnt sleep after that story, bet you didnt either.
I once saw a headless ghost wandering around the castle grounds. Billy...Blackrod
Ed.....Another top story about real life experiences. Thanks Billy. keep em coming!
Emily and i were once walking towards Angelsarke when we spotted a deer staring back at us. It was a beautiful creature. It then looked away and then ran off. Miss Poppycock...Smithills
Ed.....A rather unlikely story dont you think... Deer up rivington... Its not Knowsley flipping Safari Park.. on yer bike!
You've probably guessed im a bit mad by now so just write anything. I dont care. Head of to the blog pages, sign in, email not shown and passwords encrypted and write any old rubbish, thats what i do.
Seriously, if you can write about any of Rivingtons history. I will move your story to a permanent page with your name in big letters.

Rivington Hall barn or top barn. Serves good food in here. I like chips and gravy for something simple and because im tight and at the weekend there is usually someone cooking outside.
Park on the road leading up to it when busy. Traffic starts to bottleneck near the barn and you could end up stuck. Mainly on Sundays.
Great House Barn Tea room, snacks, ice cream and a gift shop. Decent car park but soon gets full.
Village Green Tea Room Converted church hall located behind Rivington chapel. Traditional home cooked food and dog friendly. You can park on the road but its a bit tight. Best parking is behind the foundation school over the road.
Rivington Bowling Club Sits off the banks of the reservoir off Horrobin lane. Has its own car park and a bowling green. Tea room, snacks, ice cream and bar with plenty of outdoor space and nice views.
